It would be great if we can only use one website to check the best airfare. However, it is often impractical to do so, which is the main reason why there are so many different websites claiming to offer the best airfare.
If you’ve read this article, you may agree that Kayak is a platform that we can use to find the lowest airfare. Without going off-topic, I just want to reiterate that Kayak not only delivers the lowest airfare compared to every major airfare portal, but it is the only website along with Google Flights offering us the ability to view total price of airfare that includes the baggage fee.
This brief blog entry is written to highlight how I use Kayak Flight and Google Flights to find a great price.
As an initial step, use Google Flights to view the price trend for your journey. Afterward, use those dates to get a cheap price on Kayak.
First Step: Use Google Flights for price trends
Using Google Flights, you can quickly get an overview of the price trend using the Price Graph. As shown below, the Price Graph allows you to see price variations for your journey. If using a mobile version, scroll down the half-page from the top to find this filter.
For example, if you are planning a round-trip journey from New York to Los Angeles, you can put your desired dates in the search engine before clicking on the price graph.
The graph will show you all the variations of 7-day journeys if you were to depart on a different date. You can also change the journey duration to view if there is a better price on other days. This feature is useful if you are traveling on unpopular or lesser-known international cities.
While other airfare portals also offer similar functions but none is as easy to use as Google Flights. Once, you have found a day that you will like to travel switch to Kayak Flights to find the cheapest airfare.
2nd Step: Use Kayak Flights for cheap price
After selecting a preferred date for your journey, use Kayak Flights to dig the best rates. Don’t forget to select the number of bags so you can get a fair idea of the price that includes baggage.
It’s also recommended to use the filters to find the best flight timing. Surely, you will not regret the prices offered by Kayak.
If you’re flexible, I also suggest changing the dates one or two days of your desired journey. By changing the dates you may get a better price feed, which you may have otherwise missed with the Google Flight feature. Also don’t forget to use the class-specific price fee by moving the mouse cursor on the right-side grid, as shown below:
Hopefully, these features will help you get the cheapest airfare on the give air route. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestion for improvement. Thanks for reading …
